Useful Gorilla Trekking Information
Mountain Gorillas are some of the world’s rare species threatened. Although no longer endangered, conservation of the mountain gorillas is still key and there are rules put in place to ease the process.
Some of the Gorilla Trekking Rules to follow include;
- Before you trek mountain gorillas make sure you are free from communicable diseases such as flu.
- You must be 15 years and above or a letter of exemption for individuals younger in order to be granted access to gorilla parks.
- When tracking, maintain maximum silence and make sure you are in a group of not more than 8 minus the rangers.
- When with the gorillas, keep a distance of at least 8 meters away from them, avoid eating and unnecessary gestures in front of the gorillas.
- Do not litter around the gorilla habitat.
- Do not use flash lights while taking pictures of the mountain gorillas.
Since the mountain gorillas live in tropical mountainous forests, one need to come while well prepared for the rough adventure.
Gorilla Trekking involves long walks in the forests, therefore one needs to be physically sound in order to trek. For elders, disabled and those not willing to hike for longer periods, there is an option of hiring porters at an extra costs.
Walking in thick forests like Bwindi forest requires some special attires for a smooth journey. You need hiking shoes, long-sleeved shirts and pants and garden-gloves to avoid touching thorns.
Carry a camera to capture your amazing moments with the Mountain Gorillas.
